Power systems training

Our depth of knowledge in power engineering is a result of our long history of involvement in the development, operation and maintenance of Tasmania’s intricate electricity network.

Our expert power systems modelling, which has been provided to numerous developers, network providers, and regulators, has informed the Australian renewable energy industry and provided a sound basis for grid connection of renewable energy projects.

Aspects of electrical connection and transmission are covered in the hydro power and wind power courses. In addition, more specific short courses can be provided to increase understanding and awareness of power system and transmission issues that need to be considered when planning or delivering renewable energy project or programs.

Transmission corridor planning (1 -2 days)

Designed for developers, planners, or junior engineers, this course provides an introduction to the concepts of corridor planning that are important for grid connection/power evacuation, and which can form an important component of overall project feasibility and design.

The aim of the course is to increase participants’ understanding of the key aspects of transmission corridor planning so that they can be incorporated early into overall project development considerations and risk assessments. The course duration is one or two days and covers topics such as corridor width considerations, route selection
approaches, and dealing with uncertainty.

Large renewable system integration (2 days)

Designed for engineers and middle to senior management working on large-scale clean energy projects, the course covers the key issues and risks associated with planning for major system integration.

The aim of the course is to increase participants’ understanding of the key technical complexities and, in particular, how to manage for the specific requirements for renewables and how to avoid delays. The course duration is two days and includes classroom training and case study assignments.

Small system integration (2 days)

Designed for engineers and middle to senior management working on large-scale clean energy projects, the course covers the particular issues associated with small
renewable systems.Designed

The aim of the course is to increase participants’ understanding of the key technical complexities and, in particular, how to manage for the specific requirements for integration of small-scale renewables and how to avoid delays. The course duration is two days and includes classroom training and case study assignments.
