White Rock Wind Farm
Client: Goldwind Australia
Location: New South Wales, Australia
Date: April 2016 - 2018
Supporting the development of valuable renewable power generation
Background
The White Rock Wind Farm in the New England/Northern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia, will be larger than any wind farm currently operating in the state. Once completed, it will produce sufficient energy to power approximately 75 000 homes.
The $400 million project is jointly owned by CECEP Wind-Power Corporation (CECWPC) and Goldwind.
Goldwind Australia will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services to the project as well as warranty operations and maintenance during operation.
Solution
Entura acted as independent advisor to Goldwind Australia during construction, providing engineering design review and site inspections for the balance of plant contract, which includes the main civil and electrical works for the wind farm.
Entura’s role was to conduct a technical review of the balance-of-plant contractor civil, structural and electrical design. Through the review process Entura also provided safety in design recommendations and suggestions on how to improve the construction phase.
These recommendations included tweaking the roads and hardstand design to ensure easier access for construction vehicles, a reduction of cut and fill, consideration of arc flash and personnel safety, and flagging opportunities to improve quality assurance during site inspections.
Outcome
Entura understood the urgency of the project and provided the majority of our review and ad-hoc advice in a shorter time frame then required to exceed customer expectations. Entura’s wealth of experience in renewable energy generation projects will help ensure the successful delivery of this milestone project for CECWPC and Goldwind.
